GFR Calculator

What is GFR?

The Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) is a measure of kidney function. This calculator estimates GFR using the MDRD, CKD-EPI, Mayo Quadratic (adults), and Schwartz (children) formulas. GFR helps assess kidney health and stages of chronic kidney disease (CKD).

GFR Formulas

  • MDRD: GFR = 175 × (SCr)-1.154 × (age)-0.203 × (0.742 if female) × (1.212 if Black)
  • CKD-EPI: See detailed formula
  • Mayo Quadratic: GFR = exp(1.911 + 5.249/SCr - 2.114/SCr² - 0.00686 × age - (0.205 if female))
  • Schwartz (children): GFR = 0.413 × height(cm) / SCr

CKD Stages

  • Stage 1: GFR ≥ 90 (normal, with kidney damage)
  • Stage 2: GFR 60–89 (mild decrease)
  • Stage 3: GFR 30–59 (moderate decrease)
  • Stage 4: GFR 15–29 (severe decrease)
  • Stage 5: GFR < 15 (kidney failure)
